our last voice for The Great War has now gone

Today we lost our last living link to WW1 US (the great war). That takes the number of WW1 vets worldwide down to less than 5.  It has me thinking again about the history I lived through both first and 2nd hand. More than likely we will lose our last WW1 in the next couple years. We lost or last Spanish American war when I was a kid Late 70’s early 80’s. Our WW2 and Korean vets numbers are dropping daily. The last Vietnam War vet has now left the army in the last year after 30 + years of services.  I wonder what stories have been lost never to be heard again. I think of my own retelling of events from the sandbox, rock pile, Getmo, Bosnia and other places and wonder how long they will be remembered. I have already lost two battle buddies since I left the army that I know of. One to enemy action (and if they shoot at you they are the enemy I hate PC) and one to suicide PTSD.  While I can’t write about some things at the Rock pile or Getmo yet I think starting next month I will start writing one event a month from my time in the military. Not that any of the events are great but I want to get them down so someday down the road the when the last of my buddies are gone we will still have a story. To Frank Buckle WW1 vet I send you one last job well done.
