Day four -- There is no joy in Mudville.... or here for that matter today, because I had a rather lousy day. Weather indeed went to pot by evening, I had a fight with my husband, I'm broke, I'm tired, I'm cranky, and my neck hurts because I need to go see the chiropractor and haven't yet gotten around to it. What is good today? Anything?
Well, we did not slide on the ice, wreck the car and kill ourselves. Okay, the dieing was unlikely, the wrecking the car, however was a distinct possibility.
I took the kid to Pokemon league at the library, which is usual for Saturday afternoons. Checked out the window a couple of times, and, while the overcast was becoming heavier all day and eventually turned to fog, the precipitation didn't seem to have started.
Oops.... By the time we left at five, it had started a freezing drizzle that coated both car and streets with ice. Only the heaviest traveled main streets were worn down to wet pavement; all the side streets and less traveled parts of the main ones were slick -- very slick. Luckily we had clear pavement about halfway home and the rest was manageable, though I took it very slowly and drove like I was stepping on eggshells.
So the joy for day four is: We're home, alive and in one piece, and so it the car.
Day five -- Day five was better, no fights, no footraces, cold as hell, (at least -4F this morning) but everywhere I was supposed to show up today got canceled due to the cold, so the kid and I stayed home and played video games all day -- he mostly Spiro (the new PS2 one, whatever it is called) and Kingdom Hearts (also on the PS2) and me Phoenix Wright: Justice for All on my Nintendo DS. There are worse ways to spend cold, cold winter days. And the blizzard failed to materialize -- we got a little snow, but mostly wind and cold. Yay!
So the joy for today is warm houses in cold weather, and getting to stay home in them!
