Nyota fiddled with the earring hanging from the ear currently not occupied by her headset, jotting down notes on the PADD near her--she knew that it was more logical to document in the computer system first, but she enjoyed being able to record things in her own hand, first. And if she was going to be honest, she'd been trying to avoid the physical that had been scheduled for her because, well, who REALLY liked hyposprays? Of course, she knew that Bones was going to be nicer to her than he might have been to others--mainly because he had a soft spot for her a mile wide (that was definitely a mutual feeling), and because she'd been hurt enough lately
( ... )
Bones couldn't help it, but when he saw Nyota, his lips quirked slightly, obviously pleased to see her. She was one of the few people he'd be happy to see, and that was why he'd scheduled her physical so early on in the rota. He knew she'd want it out of the way, and he wanted to start on a high note.
So, giving his PADD a glance and a tap to mark her off, he walked over to her.
"What are you worried about? Someone like you, you'll be in and out in 10 minutes." He had no doubt that she was the picture of health and would ease through.
"Bonus points for not trying to worm out of it," he added, as he gestured for her to follow him to one of the bio-beds.
To be honest, she was glad that he'd put her so early on the list--she wanted to get this done with and get back to her day. It wasn't that she didn't trust Bones, or think he wasn't a good doctor, or something equally ridiculous. Ever since her mother's illness, and all those endless days in the hospital, being in sickbay and near doctors just made Nyota's skin crawl--it was a decidedly uncomfortable feeling, and she hated to admit she was terrified of physicals
( ... )
"No need to be nervous with me," he replied. Most others had good reason, but he would always be a gentleman, polite and careful with Uhura. He took hold of his medical tricorder then and began to scan her.
His lips quirked into a smile and he raised his head to look at her. "Now you're just flatterin' me," he drawled, shaking his head. He let out a little 'hmph' of disapproval at the mention of the 'Commander'. "Damn hobgoblin," he simply replied. Spock was of course on time. Terribly predictable.
(HA! maybe :P He'll see those bruises and be all 'wtf, what have you been DOING?!)
Nyota rolled her eyes. "I know. I guess it's just....habit?" She kicked her legs slightly as he picked up the tricorder, stilling as he came towards her in case she kicked him--which would no doubt knock off the points she'd apparently received for not worming out of the appointment. "Because of my mom," she added quietly, meeting Bones' eyes briefly. "However, I feel far safer in your hands than I would in others', so."
She grinned when he glanced up at her. "Of course. I'm secretly hoping that if I charm you enough, you'll stab Kirk with my hyposprays instead of me." When he frowned and called Spock a hobgoblin, she admitted it was difficult not to laugh, just a little. She sighed and shook her hair back from her neck. "He's just...." she searched for words for a moment, then realized she was trying to defend him, and frowned. "A damn hobgoblin," she said finally, a small laugh escaping her.
((LAWL. she'll be like "NUFFIN" *pulls collar up*))
He didn't push her on that, because that wasn't his style. She was telling him as much as she wanted to, and he was listening. He thought that was why their friendship worked; he'd support her, and care for her, but he'd never push past ANY boundaries. He of course knew what an attractive woman she was, but would never cross that line out of respect for her and her companionship. The same applied to her emotional state and secrets. He'd listen to whatever she wanted to share, and not push beyond. All part of respecting her.
"You don't have to ask that one twice," he replied. Though of course, he'd only neck stab Jim as much as he needed to, it was still appealing in it's own funny little way. He soon rested the tricorder down and began tapping notes onto a PADD, laughing quietly with her.
"Nice to see you're picking up my insults."
(He'll totally be like 'so you just bruise from sitting?! That's Andorian shingles! *Flails* CONTAMINATED OFFICER!!)
It was nice, having someone who knew enough about her past to know why she did certain things or perhaps acted certain ways--certainly why she wanted to go into linguistics, because not many people knew the truth about that one--and it was nice as well that Bones, like Sulu, had never pushed the issue. She'd done the same for him since the first time they'd met--she knew he had things that bothered him or secrets that weighed him down, but she'd never tried to pry them out of him. It was one of the nicer, simpler, more respectful relationships she was part of, and she thought that was why it worked

"Damn," she sighed, eyeing the other instruments with varying degrees of mistrust. Why did doctors DO that, she wondered? It seemed mean to taunt people with the things they were going to be using on them
( ... )
He smiled at her, and rolled his eyes in amusement, as he began his reflex tests (which I know nothing about so, uh, yeh...). At the mention of Christine, he knew the tips of his ears went slightly red, though that was the only indication that he'd been affected by the mention of her name. "Nurse Chapel hasn't had her medical, yet," he replied, giving her the slightest of looks, his expression telling her to behave! Though really, he should probably talk to someone, at some point, who wouldn't taunt him a la Kirk about things with Chris.
"One lung to go with the three hearts and seven stomachs, right?" He replied, being just as joking with her. Her suspicious tone though caused him to stop, as he furrowed his brow in thought. "General health. I need to also do a psych evaluation, but now you're not with the goblin, I'm sure I can put you down with a clean bill of health, rather than 'clinically insane'."
Since he hadn't run from the room screaming, she assumed that everything was in fine working condition--not that she was surprised. She wasn't the most athletic of the crew, but she kept herself in enough shape that, if needed, she could kick an ass or two--it just wasn't something that was logical, in her position, to have to do. She tried very hard not to read the notes he was tapping in on his PADD, but she was curious. Instead, she let her eyes wander, meeting his with a quick grin when he responded to her comment about stomachs, twisting away slightly when he poked her gently with the PADD.
"Hey! Ticklish," she protested, a small giggle escaping her. "And please, I eat half as much as some people on this ship," she protested, thinking of the one and only time she'd seen Scotty eat....of course, being stranded somewhere for six months might do that to a person, but it had been horrifying.
When he mentioned sex, her eyes went wide and her stomach dropped to her feet. Shit. It was practical, obviously--Spock could have had some
( ... )
Nyota raised one eyebrow at him. "Please, don't. You do realize this ship is stock-full of geniuses, right? And that any one of them may be inclined to hack into my file because they're bored, right? And then I would be harassed by Ensigns night and day and then I would have to hurt you." Of course, she was joking....mostly
( ... )
"I'll be on my best behavior," he replied, crossing over his chest, a 'scouts honor' kind of move. There are few people he'd never dare to cross with Uhura very close to the top of the list! She was fiesty, and whilst he could handle that mostly, he had a feeling she'd eat him alive.
He watched her carefully, his eyes following her hand where he was sure he caught a hint of something on her skin. What was that? He'd have to explore further later. If she had some sort of rash, it really would need looking at
