hello hello I am hacking away on the third day of a flu (together with
panthael_angel, body-ache, fever, lemsip and honey-lemon buddy. what are the odds of two people getting flu at the exact same time, on the very same day.....).
incidentally today was the first time I tried Lemsip. it smells like Fairy liquid and tastes like detergent but I suppose it's still better than regular cough syrup.
I also made a
tumblr since
edohsama and all the hip kids have one, but I have yet to decide what to do with it besides uploading random photos. I know, I'll do that hetalia 30 days meme thing on it.
Very large and overdue photo-post. Warning: MANY PHOTOS. REALLY.
MUNICH & BERLIN, DECEMBER 2009
Also known as "that time we got stranded in Berlin because airports in London are pussies".
--MUNICH [NEUSCHWANSTEIN]--
Let's open with a nice image of Hohenschwangau, tourist town extraordinaire
The Alpensee, on the way up to Hohenschwangau Castle. There was another trail leading off from here that led into the Austrian Tyrol.
Neuschwanstein aka Sleeping Beauty Castle. Built by "Mad King" Ludwig, who nearly (or did he actually succeed) bankrupted Bavarian state coffers in order to fund his fantasy castles. It had the first flushing toilet in Europe.
Schloss Nymphenburg, in the suburbs of Munich, and the frozen canal. We also went to the Amalienburg (a hunting lodge within the grounds of Nymphenburg) which had pretty little Delft porcelain-style dog kennels, and the Carriage Museum where I took far too many pictures of carriages and sleds (surprise surprise), and-
- noses used for target practice (apparently they fit it on this human bust [displayed alongside the glass case with the noses] and since the nose is detachable, they replace every time it falls off?! I guess.. the explanation was in German)
--BERLIN--
Hot dog stand just off Brandenburger Tor lololol
Christmas tree at the Christmas market in the Gedactniskirche (sp);; I'm pretty sure I got it wrong, but it's near the Zoo U-bahn.
mosaic of St Michael on the floor of the same church as above.
Berlin Philharmonie. One of the few modern buildings I liked
and what is a tube sign doing in the U-Bahn
Berliner Dom. It was snowing.
Sanssouci, where we met an Old Fritz cosplayer playing the flute.
St Michael statue/chapel in Schloss Babelsberg - it was closed in winter, but we didn't know that. So we turned up at a near-desolate site xD;; the surroundings of the Gothic-style palace would sure be a great place to shoot a vampire movie...
EDIT: What do you know, Rammstein actually shot a Gothic-themed
video there.
LEEDS AND MANCHESTER, MARCH 2010
Manchester is not the most picturesque of places (and neither is Leeds) ... but you could also say that about London.
A hearse drove past me while I was crossing the street in Leeds. My reaction was delayed so you can see it only if you squint :|
Collection of weapons at the Armoury.
THAILAND, AUGUST 2010
Road trip to Hat Yai
a shop selling birds
boats selling eggs
uncles in Penang chilling on the porch
CAMBRIDGE AND LONDON, NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2010
--CAMBRIDGE--
Good English food
--HYDE PARK--
Nowadays I live walking distance from here so photos aplenty.
(fog makes everything look better)
--LONDON ICE AGE--
ARCTIC SNOWSTORM
Regents Park with frozen-over pond/canal/lake/everything. Carol singers not included.
Regents Canal with what I think is a floating Chinese restaurant in the background
Looking out to the South Bank from the Stone Gallery of St Paul's. The chinpo to the left is the Tate Modern. The Golden Gallery (the one that would definitely have made me cry for mercy halfway up the steps...) was thankfully closed due to snow ("adverse weather conditions"). Not that the view from the Whispering Gallery didn't already make me want to cringe, magnificent as it was.
this is what I was doing at night during the London Ice Age. never again, never again
Cornwall, Paris and Munich part 2 next zzzzzzzz probably some art in interim
