It being a long weekend this weekend for Wellington Anniversary Day (I've always been annoyed that it's during school holidays anyway), much of the extended family went camping in Wainuiomata this weekend. It was supposed to be a two nighter. Day one was great: Mostly lovely day despite sporadic drizzle and a cold night, and we had a family vs. family vs. family vs. family game of Cranium that ended in a four way tie, no thanks to the awkwardness of having to charades "hormone" to my family (two syllables! second syllable: complain, whine, moan? first syllable: ...?) and my mother's confidently making a verbal typo spelling "bookkeeping". "Bookkepping" my ass, we could have won that...
Day two, it poured all day. By the time dinner came around, the adults began fantasizing about packing up, leaving the tents there (who wants to pack up a tent in the rain), and having a sleepover at our house instead (party at our house had been the plan B).
After a ten minute discussion, the fantasy became a reality. We literally packed up our gear and drove home, leaving the tents pitched but empty (we'd already paid for two nights), to have a family sleepover at our house. I suspect this is the weirdest thing we've ever done, but it was well worth it. We even got to see some of our bandmates who just got back from vacation in the US.
And so this morning after breakfast, we all went back out to the 'nui to pack up our tents. And then we went to the mall for lunch, because that's how we roll. My family added shopping afterwards, and I picked up
a tutuesque skirt from Urban Angel for $19.99 (original price is missing and it's not available online; I will never know how much it was marked down from aaaaargh). I sense future use as a petticoat/extra layer as well as a skirt on its own.
Last week I threw my Golden Sun cartridges at my sister and told her to play them. She has started. Somehow watching her play and being her walkthrough when she asks five million questions has been far more entertaining than actually replaying and doing all the goddamn log puzzles in two seconds because I apparently still remember how to do them even though I haven't played in a couple of years. Possibly something to do with how she saves every two seconds, chews me out for throwing all her coin at armor, and will take ten minutes on a five minute piece of plot because she'll stop to commentate.
I'm feeling pretty proud of Skins USA lately: One of my friends who's only seen bits and pieces of Skins UK gen 2 and barely remembers it watched USA and loved it. And really, it's for people like that, yeah? New fans, not the old. So it's working. And something that some fans have brought up that I never thought of: Tony's spider duvet, the book he was reading on the loo was about spiders, the new surname, the symbolism in that spider association. I like that.
My fashion blog idea suddenly turned into a group blog idea when I said to one of my bandmates, "hey, I might start a fashion blog, you should write about [her latest style obsession which I have nothing to do with] on it" in front of everyone else and suddenly had a storm of "omg, I'll write something!" on my hands. This can't end well.
