Epic fail....

Here's an email I received yesterday (the 24th):

Hello, I am with the [name of] football team and we really need your help! We have our Eastern Region Championship game this Friday, November 27th, 12pm at Toms River South High School with the winner going to play in the Pop Warner Super Bowl in Disney. Our organization has never won a regional game in its history, but this year we won 3 of those games to lead us to the championship this coming Friday.

We desperately need donations to help fund our trip and was hoping you could help by writing a small article about it for anyone who would like to help these hard working children on their historic achievement here in [town]. Anything you could do would be greatly appreciated.

Please contact me at [name and phone number].

Let me get this straight. You haven't even won the game and you're asking for money to go the regionals?! What happens to the money if you don't win the game? Not to mention, we do it for one, we have to do it for all.

If you can't afford to go, then you shouldn't go. Or you should try all means. Maybe - and that's a big maybe - if you told me you had sold everything possible, people hate the cookies you're selling, and your van that you be driving down to Florida broke down - we may be interested.

Not to mention, is the money really going to the trip? Can you tell me how much money is being taken in, and where is it going? You'd be surprised on the lack of accounting there is with private sports teams - we just did an article on that subject a few months ago.

Heck, there are times I can't afford to go out to dinner. Or am trying to stretch out the gas in my car. You don't see me sending out e-mails or canning in front of the local deli.
