Best (Subaru/Yasu)

Inspired by the Yasuba love letter thing from the wink killer games. Written for pinkpapyrus, just because.
"Shibuyan," Yasu says, but Subaru doesn't look up. There's a slight flinch, though, and Yasu knows Subaru heard, so he pulls up a chair and sits down next to him at the table. "You're being really quiet."
Subaru shrugs, eyes on the tabletop, hands little balls in his lap.
"Are you upset?" Yasu asks, and Subaru's mouth gives an annoyed twitch. "Ah, embarrassed then?" he tries again. "Is it what I said earlier?"
Subaru sends his a quick glare and opens his mouth to speak, but quickly looks down, snapping his mouth shut again.
"I meant it, you know?" Yasu says, a little smile playing at the corner of his lips, and that finally does it.
"Shut up," Subaru grumbles. "You always take those things too seriously."
Yasu grins and shrugs happily. "I..." he begins, but Subaru interrupts with a hand on his mouth.
"I said shut up!" he says, and Yasu nods, but doesn't stop smiling. There's a silent moment then, and both just stare at each other.
"Stop it," Subaru says. "Don't look at me like that. Don't smile. Don't." Then, quieter than a whisper and spoken to the table, "I like you best."
"What was that?" Yasu asks.
"Shut up!"
