[Private to Parvati]
Please don't breathe a word of this to your sister, but do you think she'd be interested in spending some time on Valentine's day with Ernie? He's fretting about it, and I'd feel much better encouraging him if I knew it wouldn't end in defeat.

Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

I definitely don't advocate spying, it'll only end in disaster. As years of being Parvati's big sister (even if it's only by a few minutes!), I've learned it best just to keep a distant eye but not come down heavy handed and disapproving.

Oh, I was mostly joking about the spying. I know I couldn't really do something like that -- if she found out I'm sure she'd stop telling me about her dates at all.

Exactly, better to hear the 'gory' details rather than be fretting.

I'll fret either way, but your point still stands.

Alright. So we're supposed to go walking on weekends, but she'd been sick and asked if I wanted to go this weekend. But I said I had a business trip. Which now I do as I picked one up in case she looked into the matter. That's besides the point. Then I asked if next Saturday would work, and perhaps brunch afterward and she said yes.

So. Now what do I do? Do you think she realises it was Valentine's day? Do I bring flowers or anything? No, that would be too pushy, I'd think. Perhaps chocolate? But she's a fantastic baker, so she probably could make something immensely more satisfying than chocolate.

Why did you -

I'm almost certain she knows it's Valentine's Day, most women do keep track of these things.

Flowers would be a sweet gesture, and not too pushy as long as you don't get a huge bouquet. At any rate, you should do something to distinguish the date from just a casual get-together.

You did tell her it was a date, right?

Oh. So I shouldn't worry then?

Alright. flowers. Yes. What colour?

She might not know that you know it was Valentine's Day if you just said "next Saturday."

Do you know her favorite color? Or better yet, her favorite type of flower?
Don't fret if you don't. It's honestly not a big deal, most flowers are nice.

Why now, Miss Abbott, what sort of sister would I be if I gave away confidences? Assuming there were any in the first place, that is.

Tell him just to go for it. It's better to regret what you've done than what you haven't and all that stuff.

I wasn't asking you to give away confidences, I was asking for your opinion!

Though if your mind jumped immediately to confidences I suppose I can draw some assumptions from that.
