I know a lot of my friends are happy about Obama winning the election, and some are not. Me? I'm glad that the candidate I felt was right to lead us made it to the White House.......and that I was there to witness one of the hugest moments in history.
Believe me, I was a McCain supporter for many years. Had he kept his rebellious nature and stuck to what he believed in, it would have made my vote much harder to make. But what's done is done and all we can do is look forward. I am proud of McCain for his speech, but not for the people who booed and hissed when he was trying to make it. Give the man a break......he just lost and rather than be bitter or angry about it, he did his best to let everyone know how much he appreciated the opportunities that he was afforded......and now he's focusing on giving Obama a hand while he's in office.
In watching him talk, I saw a bit of the old McCain come back out. Instead of mud-slinging, he did the right thing by saying that no matter what happens, we shouldn't stand divided. As Americans, we should be proud of whomever is in office. Unfortunately, I can't say that for the past eight years I've been proud of who is running the country.......but I supported him (despite my dislike). There's a reason Obama won.....and it's more than a race issue. We need a change in office. We need to see someone different take a stab at turning this country around. It's not going to happen overnight and I know that many people are opposed to it, but it was going to happen sometime.
Whether it be now or later, someone new was going to come in and start cleaning up the mess that has been made. As Americans, let's give Obama a chance. Let's not be scared of it, but rather try to give him the opportunity to show everyone what he can do with this great responsibility. If he messes up, then he messes up and we're to blame for putting him there. But give him a shot. Sometimes, when you least expect it, you will be surprised.
