"I'll see you in another life, brotha."

So, I've been working on this post for about a week. At first it was just going to be a few of my thoughts about the finale. And then it morphed into...lol whatever it is now. It's not really a picspam (there are more words than pics under cut) but it kind of became that. I just kept adding and adding to it. If anyone reads the whole thing ( Read more... )

picspam: lost, tv: lost, picspam, public

I don't think "The Constant" would have worked (on many levels - in the AU he met Dan - who was neither a scientist nor a wearer of scrunchies - and Penny for the "first" time in 2004) if Des had always been flashing to the afterlife. But yeah, everyone who's being all "I WAS RIGHT THE ISLAND WAS PURGATORY!!!1!!" is a moron. Desmond, Ben, Dan, Richard, Frank, Juliet, et al would not have entered the picture had everyone died in the crash. No one on 815 would have even known each other, making their shared heaven totally stupid. Plus, if you're reading the last shot of the wreckage as a literal thing, you can't ignore the FUCKING FOOTPRINTS around it.

In my graduate lit courses, a fun game we play is reading "dog" as "God."

Oh I don't mean The Constant. Even when I didn't know the AU was after-life I still always thought The Constant was only time-travel.

What I meant about after-life flashing was "Flashes Before Your Eyes" when he's re-living things he's already lived before, only with slight differences. And someone's life "flashing before their eyes" is always associated with pre-death anyway. If that's the case it would be really cool that they thought that far ahead.

But I have to re-watch the episode to really make a decision about it. It might just be time-travel with continuity errors. If he's not flashing to the after-life then the thing with Charlie on the street is a huge continuity error. *shrug* Errors are possible on this show though.

I think that "Flashes Before Your Eyes" was just Prisoner-of-Azkaban style time traveling. Des could really only do the things that he'd already done.

Something that I haven't noticed people picking up on is the way in which, at the end, everyone is transported somewhere else in a final flash of light. That's some significant symbolism on this show.

On my facebook I have some pics up of me and my friend who looks like Charlie lol.

Yea, I figured. It's just sad because now there's obvious continuity errors. Oh well.

Well, the "light" represents life and death too so it makes sense. Although it's possible they didn't go anywhere and were transported to "peacefulness".
