my birthday was Wednesday April 11, 2012. i had to work 6am-2pm. boo. and i also woke up thinking "omg i'm another year old and haven't accomplished anything." so it was a sad pity party of a birthday for me. i did run into some people who knew it was my birthday and greeted me, which was pleasant. and so were the facebook messages of course. that plus the little dinner with my family + kevin were the highlight of the day.
thursday april 12, 2012 was just a tad bit better. nothing exciting or special, but better than the day before. probably because I was looking forward to the weekend.
friday april 13, 2012 long tiring day at work. ugghhhh. but someone i hadn't seen all week remembered my birthday had passed and he greeted me when he saw me. put a smile on my face. and my mom made my lunch-- score! still excited for the weekend. not exactly excited for that friday night "adult easter egg hunt" that was planned by a friend, only because I was tired as shit. but it was a beautiful day-- i arrived to work at 05:45 and it was still light out, and the sun shined throughout. .... and the little social gathering at night was still fun.
saturday = INTERNATIONAL MAKE-UP ARTIST TRADE SHOW!!!!! 2nd annual attendance of IMATS-NYC opened to the public. i was alone, which initially was kind of boring, but then i enjoyed browsing on my own, sitting through all the guest speakers that i wanted, without consideration of someone else's feelings. AND i didn't max out my budget, which is tough knowing how discounted the products were compared to store retail! kevin and I had reservations at a sushi damo for 19:00, but at 16:30 i had realized that I did not eat ALL day while at the convention. so we went to the nearby bar for drinks and "appetizers" at Jake's Saloon, where their "april's martini" was pretty much all of my favorite liquors in a single glass. took a little nizzy in the hotel before dinner. finally made it to Sushi Damo where they had an awesome Lychee Martini, and sushi was delicious.
sunday = IMATS day 2. i had done some research the night before and finalized my shopping list, and even watched Koren Zander's demo. a lot of what he had to stay was nice, but not something i haven't heard before. still cool, though. he's always fun. i also saw a bunch of other youtube make up gurus like makeupbyrisa, queen of blending, julieg, (and kandee johnson yesterday)-- love those guys, but omg they were the reason why it was soo effing crowded yesterday that I was losing my patience with all the little kiddies and their mothers! (add them to the category of stage moms). and I really do like those people, I think they're great, but I personally did not want to stand in a long assed line to meet them.. at least not this year (i was lucky to do it last year). and kim finally joined me, and I actually got to browse at my leisure. finally left the convention, WITHIN BUDGET! holler!!! then kim and I went back to nj and ate outside the local greek restaurant, stuffing our faces with pita, greek fries, hummus and tzatziki, PLUS our actual meals while splitting a bottle of pinot grigio. THEN we shared a peanut butter stuffed chocolate cupcake. we were sinners as we gluttonously cheated on our diets today. (well, she did. me, diet? HAH!) great girlfriend catch up time. we made pacts, ahahahahaha. then I come home to Auntie Virgin telling me I look skinny. and what mothereffers! epic weekend. now I shall play with (half) of my new make up (as the other half is in kevin's car).
end ramble.
oh, yea, and church this morning. kevin and I were obviously not home, so we had to attend elsewhere-- it's always weird being somewhere other than your home church. but anyway, this is what I took out of it (yea, the last sentence of the homily, but still a powerful one):
"if we follow Jesus out of love (not out of fear, or whatever), then we are welcomed to the opened gates of heaven."
paraphrase- have good intentions, do things for the right reason, and then good shit awaits you.
