Rizzoli & Isles

My favorite new series of the moment. :) If I had more time, I'd write a proper entry about it, but for now, this e-mail that I sent my sister will have to do to give you a preview. ;)

Random, but I recently got into a TV series called Rizzoli & Isles, starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander. This show is SOO good. It's the best-written drama I've seen in a long time. The way the writers weave in the characters' backstories and real lives (yes, they have lives outside of work; gasp!) is really well-done; I don't ever recall feeling like I knew characters so well after only watching 10 episodes.

And it's a show with two female leads, and they are both sooo awesome. I've liked Angie Harmon in everything I've seen her in, but Sasha Alexander is a delightful surprise. Her character is so innocent and quirky. She's kind of like a more socially functional and fashionable version of Brennan, but she has her own spirit to her character. She knows so many random facts, lol. I think you'll like it! :) I really can't choose which character I like better because they're both brilliant, strong, and self-respecting women, and they're so different. There's no rivalry between them. And what's refreshing is that they both are attracted to men but don't need men, lol.

I kind of devoured the series over the three-day weekend (xD), and now that I get a full view of what I just watched, I'm pretty amazed. I remember thinking, "Ugh, this is so good" and feeling that I need to rewatch the episodes to figure out how the writers did such a top-notch job in sketching out these characters. They're just really well-drawn. Love it!

Also, I like that the cases are solved very organically. There's less of a procedural feel to the show because there isn't that repetitive cycle of dig, interview, and dig some more. I feel that there's more fieldwork and other types of settings and scenes, and compared to many similar shows (even ones I like!), there are a lot fewer of those police-station interviews. I like it. :)

Brief real-life update:
  • Time's going down to the wire with my senior honors thesis, so I really need to get going on that. Unfortunately, it'll be consuming my life for the next two weeks, so I'm going to have to swear off distractions (which is really hard because American Idol is back, and even after all these years, I'm still hopelessly addicted to this show!).
  • I had the most AMAZING church retreat this past weekend, and the biggest challenge is not to slip back into living my life the exact same way I did before retreat. I definitely need to be in prayer about that because I know I can't do anything on the basis of my own strength, but I feel super blessed by the amazing teaching and the well-needed reminder of Christ's grace.
  • The other matter, besides my thesis, I need to trust in God about is finding a job. I'm graduating soon (in a few weeks, wow!), and I really need to find a job if I want to stay in San Diego and not go back home and live with my parents.
  • I'm FINALLY done with midterms. Praise God. :) This quarter was ridiculous! I had a midterm every week from week 3 to week 9 during the quarter (with the exception of eighth week). They felt neverending.
In short? Life is busy, but God is good, so I'm trying to focus on the right things and not get discouraged.

I hope all of you are doing well! Lots and lots of love!
- Jen ♥
