I'm Such a Wuss
It snowed more than usual here today and my company's policy is that basically none of us are supposed to take any road risks to get to work on days like today.
See, Portland has next to no infrastructure for days like today and there is nothing scarier than a bunch of people who don't know how to drive in snow (myself included) trying to drive in snow. Worse, a ton of them are in Priuses and the slipping and sliding might cause their fair trade coffee in their eco-friendly travel mugs to go flying off the dash. Not cool!
So rather than risk life, limb, and damage to my Tercel and/or to the family minivan I requested that someone closer in to our offices sub for me today. I live 15 miles out. He lives 3 miles out. God bless him for being available.
Still, I feel like a wuss on this. I've driven in in similar conditions. But the problem today is that it's still snowing and is forecasted to keep snowing. Normally in P-Town you wake to some snow and its melted off by 10AM. Not so much today.
Anyway, I'm the same way about this kind of thing as I am about calling in sick. Even when it's legit I feel like a wimp. :(
