Soundtrack, Show #30: "Dreamscape"

Oct 26, 2008 10:19

Wow... the 30th Show! When I started this little project in 2006 I never had any idea if I'd even make a second one, let alone produce 30 of them.

I am, of course, very pleased to announce that Show #30 of Soundtrack, "Dreamscape", is now ready for download and your listening pleasure. You can get it via this link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/yow31t

This one is different in a lot of ways. How so? You'll really have to listen to find out.

One thing I will tell you is that much like any edition of the show and with any theme for any given show I tried very hard to avoid the obvious -- for the most part, anyway. Some 'dream' songs were just too good not to use but I really wanted to create more of a listening experience than just a bunch of songs about dreams and sleep or nightmares.

The best part of our dreams is how vast they can be and how they can be so many things... surreal, haunting, beautiful, sexy, wild, funny, bizarre, familiar... everything. And that is why this show is truly eclectic and (I hope) a truly interesting listen from start to finish.

I used quite a few suggestions from other people for this show and for reasons you'll understand once you listen to it I don't "credit" the songs that came from others. They know who they are and if/when you hear a song you threw my way you'll know I used it.

This one was really fun to piece together. They all are but this one provided a great canvas and I got to scatter it with all kinds of musical paint. Some of the colors? Alice Cooper, The Smiths, Norah Jones, The Shins, Jim Morrison, several covers of some very familiar songs, a lot of very new artists, The Cure, Ben Folds, Ingrid Michaelson, and many others. In fact, this show has a whopping 21 songs!

Big, big thanks to Sara, the "executive producer" for this one. That's right, from now on if you suggest or inspire the theme you become the executive producer for that show. :)

Finally, in addition to having a very loose tie-in with Halloween my listening recommendation for this one is to try and take it in all at once. It is a very after the sun goes down mix and may sound best in near darkness after midnight. But don't feed it past that hour, don't get it wet, and whatever you do don't give it a bath... (kudos if you got that reference).

Thanks again to everyone who submitted songs and thanks in advance for listening to this show. Please let me know if you downloaded it and (pretty) please come back and comment to let me know what you thought.
