I think im the only one not mad about Gabriel's fate. He did what he tought was right. He spent millenia running from his family, but at the end he knew he had to do something, to save the world he had come to love (in very special and sexy ways :D)
And its herte were he his better than brainless Dean, who doesnt even think in killing his dear Sam for THE SAKE OF THE WORLD! Gabriel knew that his family issues weren't as important as the FATE OF THE FREAKING WORLD!
And that why I Think that Gabriel (MY HERO!!) was right. He realized that Lucifer had to be put down quicky, and he honestly tought he had a chance to do so. Oh, and he really loved Kali, so hearthbreaking. He ultimately chose US, humanity! and his one true love, Kali, above his psycho brother, and finally his life.
The gods said that they were "here" before. That means that the world wasnt created by the judeo-christian god? Also that would explain that they don't care about humans, we are not of their creation. But I absolutely hated that they were all weaker than lucifer, they didn't even had a chance. a more epic fight was needed direly. Come on, they wre FREAKING GODS!!!
oh, and the rings, they totally pulled that from their asses...
...but at the end he knew he had to do something, to save the world he had come to love (in very special and sexy ways :D)
This sentence just makes me LOL. XD Yes, Gabriel's love for humanity is very special and sexy indeed.

Well, in fairness to Dean, he had a lot of conditioning from John about putting Sam's safety before anything else; plus, Sam's kind of a victim in all of this, too, and isn't actively trying to destroy the world the way Lucifer is. If Sam was doing the stuff that Lucy's doing, I think that eventually Dean would what Gabriel did and face down his brother.
Granted, this didn't keep me from pulling a face and wishing that the writers had let Dean could be a little more sympathetic with someone else's brother-related dilemmas.
But yes, Gabriel was quite brave there in the end, especially considering that he had to have known going into his fight that all of his usual tricks were taught to him by the guy he was fighting.

Yeah, now that I think about it some more, I'm confused about where the gods fit into the grand scheme of things, as presented by the show. All this talk about humanity being the new baby, to use Gabriel's words, implies that the Judeo-Christian God created humans. In 5x04, Lucifer refers to Earth as his father's creation, implying that Judeo-Christian God created Earth. Granted, yeah, Prince of Lies, but I can't see him having such affection for something that was created by the gods that he seems to hold in such low regard. But, as you pointed out, the old-school gods said that they were here first. Sooo...what gives?
In hindsight, I'm kind of wishing that TPTB had just left the gods of other religions out of the story. It creates too many questions and didn't even give them the dignity of a good, epic battle.
