Thoughts on Glee 1x15

The writing and story-related elements were pretty weak. Probably not surprising, considering that I think they were pretty much writing a story around the songs. Musically speaking, though, HELL YEAH MADONNA. I loved most of the music to this episode. In fact, I think the rendition of "Like a Prayer" (which was one of my favorite songs already) at the end was one of their best songs, right up there with "Don't Stop Believing", "Somebody to Love", and "Proud Mary".

Thoughts on Supernatural 5x19

...I...I don't...what is this, I don't even...

Okay, let me start with the good. I was stoked that we were seeing the gods of other religions show up and that the apocalypse was being referred to as the Judeo-Christian apocalypse. Also extremely stoked over Tricksy Gabriel showing up. Kali whipping out the Awesome Flaming Arms of Fiery Doom on Lucifer was excellent. By the end of the episode, I was happy we were getting a clue how the boys could save the world.

Also? "Don't mock my world turtle!" has to be my favorite line of the night.

And now the bad. I have to warn, I might come off as a little over-sensitive here.

They...had the gods killing and eating people...what the what? And some of the gods involved in that... Kali, sure, I could see her eating people. Odin, maybe, I don't know. Baron Samedi, I don't know well enough. But most of those guys - Balder, Mercury, Zao Shen, Ganesh - I could've sworn were all nicer members of their respective pantheons.

So we have the gods and...they don't really get to do much outside of being pwned utterly by Lucifer. The only one who does anything at all is Kali and her aforementioned Awesome Flaming Arms of Fiery Doom, but even that doesn't faze old Lucy. Can someone explain that to me? Why is the evil angel (...er, eviler angel) more powerful than a bunch of old-school gods? Shouldn't they have even the slightest of edges over him? Basically, I feel like it was a bit of a waste.

...okay, while I get why Dean is giving that highly insulting speech to the gods who eat people and I know that this has never been the most PC of shows...I don't know. Just the scene where he's referring to the gods of other countries' religions, many of whom are being played by people of color, as chimps...I squirmed a bit. Like I said, maybe I'm just being oversensitive, but still, it made me a little uncomfortable. Thoughts?

Which brings me to my final point of the evening: Tricksy Gabriel.

HOLY SHIT, THEY KILLED HIM? D: Literally, after Gabe died, I spent the next fifteen minutes with a D: expression on my face.

I guess I should've seen it coming. Nobody makes a return on Supernatural without eventually dying for it. The first time, when Kali "killed" him, I gasped aloud and wailed, but cheered up quickly when I saw him alive in the Impala. Yay! \o/ I figured he was safe for the rest of the episode. I FIGURED WRONG. D: Seeing those toasted wing-shadow things after Gabe died choked me up a little.

Normally, I would say, at least he gave the boys information for how to stop the apocalypse without becoming anybody's angel muppet...but then it occurred to me, hey, why is he only telling them about this now? If he had told them this before, they could've gone searching for the rings by now, and nobody would need to be worrying about killing anybody's brother. And, you know, having an archangel help out on that front would just make things go by quicker, thus ending the brother-killing-brother discussion sooner rather than later. ::facepalm::

On the upside, that final video was pure Trickster. Man, I'm going to miss him.

In conclusion, I, uh...I don't quite know how I feel about this episode. Enjoyed the return of Tricksy Gabriel, wailed that he died, and lamented the total de-badassification of the old school gods.

Oh god, next episode is going to make me shudder SO MUCH. D:

Okay, WTF was with that Ghostfacers commercial? It just showed up out of nowhere. For a few very confused seconds, I thought it was part of the actual show.

...whew. That was a lot. Sorry about that, guys.
