Hmm, it feels like there's a lot going on all of a sudden. This week's busier than usual because our daycare provider is on vacation, I'm doing 50% more hours at work for the next 3 weeks while a colleague is on vacation.
And here I am...blogging about it. Right.
Also, I might be getting a work studio. You know, to make art and stuff. *bounce*
I went kayaking off Rockport on Saturday with
entrochan. Despite a variety of kayaking outings, I had never been required to practice a wet exit from a kayak before. OK, it only took me a couple of surprise upsets to feel good about doing one, and the water wasn't THAT cold.
After we got out beyond the point of Cape Ann, there were some awesome swells rolling in - presumably related to the approaching hurricane. But then there were surfers going "yahoo!" and breaking waves, and I was wondering how well a kayak would fare in those as they were getting within 50 feet or so of me, kind of randomly popping up out in the bay. But they looked like a lot of fun!
Then there was an LN2 ice cream party, and I was able to take a gallon's worth of cream from our raw milk deliveries and some ripe local peaches I'd picked up in Rockport and make a traditional summertime homemade ice cream treat that had that farm-fresh essence so rare for us city-dwellers.
For the record, raw cream is better than pasteurized cream for the same reason raw milk is better-tasting than pasteurized milk, but in a subtler way.
I stayed at that party later than I'd intended, but only because the old friend I'd thought to bring along at the last minute and who didn't know anyone there was busy getting a girl's phone number (apparently too distracted by conversation to actually, you know, type in the numbers).
I love it when that happens, though.
OK, I might as well start a two-week cleanse diet while I'm at it, huh?
Hey, and I could bike the 12 miles to work, too!
bye for now!
