Willow knew that it was wrong but as she reluctantly followed Angel and Buffy into Angel’s bedroom, she knew that she couldn’t just stop because it was morally wrong. As Buffy turned to face her, Willow hesitated. Once they had been best friends and now Willow knew that she was only tolerated out of necessity. The blonde’s face was carved into a cold mask that didn’t hide her jealousy, anger and hatred for the redhead. Yet, despite all of the negative emotions, Buffy wasn’t willing to give up the small pieces of paradise that she ménage a trios offered her, so she allowed Willow into the bedroom. After all watching her lover and her former best friend become uncomfortable with one another allowed her to have Angel without the threat of losing his soul. Willow never once thought of how selfish it was of Buffy to have what she wanted regardless of Angel and Willow’s emotions.
The redhead quickly followed Buffy into the bedroom and she wished that things could be different. She wished that she didn’t have to be in that room where she was forced to participate in acts that she didn’t want to be a part of. She wished that it could have been just her and Angel for once, but Willow knew that this was her punishment for having failed at cursing Angel with his soul on her first attempt. It was also her punishment for letting him be sent to Hell with his soul. At least she could always pretend that his skillful kisses and caresses were just for her, even if she knew that they really weren’t. When she was in that bedroom with Buffy and Angel, Willow didn’t want to think about how she was just a buffer in between Buffy and Angel in their most intimate act so that Angelus wouldn’t be released. It always seemed to hurt a little bit more when she left the room because she’d be immediately reminded that her presence ensured that Angel couldn’t obtain a perfect moment of happiness in the arms of his beloved Buffy.
She stood by the bed with her eyes downcast and she decided in that moment that she would apply to a college on the East Coast because this triangle was slowly tearing her apart. Maybe Buffy needed it, but Willow couldn’t make the sacrifice anymore to ensure that the Slayer had everything she needed, wanted and desired. Willow wasn’t the type of girl to just go through the motions without any emotion. Her heart was always involved and Buffy’s need was destroying her. She could accept the punishment if she didn’t have to see resentment in Buffy’s eyes all the time. It was the unspoken words of blame that Buffy held back that made it too hard for Willow. She gently sighed as Angel pulled her into his empty embrace and not for the first time, she wished that she had never laid eyes on Buffy Summers.
