As Catherine stared at the pictures on Ecklie’s desk, she was speechless. There was nothing that she could say about them, except that they had come back to haunt her at the wrong time in her career. The pictures were only slightly risqué, but they were nothing that Catherine should be ashamed of. By today’s standards, they were downright modest, yet the way that Ecklie was staring at her; Catherine would have thought that they were more than that. He wanted an explanation and she didn’t know how to explain that she had posed for them to cover her tuition. If it had been Grissom, it would have been an open and shut case but with Conrad Ecklie, Catherine felt like she was a suspect in a case. It was as if he thought that any past indiscretion, no matter how minor, needed to be dissected to ensure that it wouldn’t affect his political career or the lab’s integrity. When it came down to it, Catherine knew that Ecklie was more concerned how it would affect him.
“Well Catherine?” Ecklie prompted.
”What can I say?” Catherine asked with a shrug, “They’re the only ones.”
”Let’s hope that they are.”
”What are you implying?”
”It’d be embarrassing for the lab if any more of these pictures came out, especially since you’re now in a supervisory position.”
”Those are the only ones,” Catherine stated.
”Good,” Ecklie said.
Catherine walked of his office and once again she regretted having had those pictures taken. Enough of the higher ups in the crime lab already looked down at her because she had once been a dancer. The last thing that she really needed was something else that could affect her career negatively.
