It wasn’t that Horatio Caine didn’t believe in happy endings, it was more like he was a realist and he didn’t believe that he deserved one. For the longest time, his life had largely been one where he had strove to find penance for the sins that he had committed, especially for the sin of murder. He was a police officer and he had regrettably killed people in the line of duty, and it was something that he was ashamed of. No matter what his priest told him, Horatio truly believed that until he had found some redemption for his sins, he did not deserve to find happiness.
Although he believed that, it didn’t stop him from trying to find happiness. Despite his religious beliefs, Horatio Caine was still a man and he was not a monk. When all of his romantic relationships of the past year failed, Horatio viewed it as a sign that he had not fulfilled his self-imposed penance for his sins. At least that was until he met Marisol Delko. The stunning brunette seemed to turn his entire world upside down and she changed all of his views about himself and his life. Marisol brought the precious gifts of love and hope into his life, when he hadn’t even realized that he was missing them. When he was with her, Horatio felt like he was a new man and he stove to live up to her image of him. For once, Horatio could believe in a happy ending and that he deserved one, just as long as Marisol was by his side.
