“Now perhaps your first Watcher was a little lax when it came to your behaviour Faith, but I am not going to be. As a Slayer, you represent the Council and it is important that you behave in a lady-like manner at all times,” Wesley patiently explained to her.
”I kill vampires and demons, it’s kinda hard to be lady-like when I’m covered in blood and guts.”
”I understand what you do, Faith, I am after all a Watcher, your Watcher. But you can still behave in a dignified manner, even when covered in blood and guts as you so eloquently put it.”
”Look Wes, I slay vamps and demons and that’s the Council’s business. What I do outside of my slaying, ain’t got nothing to do with you or the Council. Got it?” Faith angrily asked.
“There’s no need for hostility,” Wesley started to say.
”Shut up Wes, you’re not my daddy and you and I are never gonna be like Buffy and Giles no matter how hard you try.”
Before her Watcher could respond to her claim, Faith had stormed out of the library. For as long as she could remember, she had been without a father and the last thing she needed was some uptight British guy who wasn’t that much older than her, telling her what to do because he thought he could be her daddy. Her first Watcher had been kind and generous to her, and in some ways she had been like a mother to Faith. Faith had confided her fears and worries to her first Watcher but when she had been killed in front of her, Faith swore that she’d never be that close to another Watcher again. And Wesley in his bumbling attempts at being like Giles was making it rather easy for her to keep that vow. Even if she hadn’t made her vow, Faith doubted that she’d ever become close to Wesley Wyndham-Pryce, she didn’t need a daddy and she didn’t need him.
