“You smell like death. A real man wouldn’t mind.”
When she had first heard Greg’s words, she had thought that the lab tech was merely mocking her because her date had just dumped her in the hall. A few months after the case, the words had come back to haunt her as she had been lying in bed mulling over another failed relationship. Then she had felt slightly creeped out by the words, and she couldn’t help but wonder if Greg was into strange and creepy stuff like sex in cemeteries, serial killers and death in general. It had taken Sara a few months to realize that if he had any bizarre obsessions like that he would never have gotten a job in the crime lab. Then she had been confused and she had done her best to avoid being alone with Greg, except for any work related to the cases she was working on. And she turned her interest to Grissom, even though she knew that nothing would ever come out of it. And finally it suddenly came to her what Greg had meant so long ago and she didn’t know how to approach him so long after he had told her that a real man, like him, would accept her and her job, even when she reeked of rotting bodies. As she watched him share a joke with Warrick, Sara felt lost until Greg turned to her and gave her a warm smile. With Greg, she realized that he was willing to wait for her until she was ready. And she knew then that she was ready for him, so she returned his smile as she started to approach him.
