Character's Voice.
I always find myself forgetting that every character in Candi doesn't speak like me. In the beginning of the comic, I didn't consider this at all and everyone uses the same slang or accents I do. Bad bad bad. I've been trying to stop this over the past year, and so far I still need a lot of improvement. But I am happy that I'm catching myself with this. I have to pay attention to how other people talk now, so I can relate this to my characters.
Candi shortens her words like I do. Alex and Jon tend to do it too since they are around each other often and grew up in the same city. Things like "Wanna" and "Gonna" instead of "want to" and "going to".
Candi's accent and speech is also influenced from her background (which will be revealed in the comic later) so her speech patterns are slightly different too. But I sometimes forget to write how she's speaks because when I type, I tend to try fix grammatical errors.
Anyway, this whole random babble came up in my thoughts because of this line:
"We got work." This is something I would say, and consequently I made Laura and Matt say it. Which is wrong for their characters. They don't talk like that, I do. It's a Candi line. But the good thing is, I caught it before I saved the comic. :)
