Road Trip Day One

Sep 05, 2008 22:38

We started on our trip to deliver Sharah to her new home and husband in Yuma. We drove from Kalamazoo, MI to Springfield, MO. It was an early start since we were all too excited to really get any sleep last night and we weren't as collected as we had planned to be. We had several stops we had to make in town before we could get going but we were on the road by 10am.

Caitlyn drove first, the easy yet messy part of the trip (Michigan road work sucks because it's never ending). She drove for the first two hours and considering she just got her license she did a good job.

We stopped at noon for gas and to switch drivers and I took the next shift. Driving in other states is kind of nice (hardly any construction, it's amazing!) I honestly think I got the easiest section of the driving but I'm not complaining. We made two stops during my 4 hours (potty potty) since my ankle kept falling asleep and the dog needed a break. The cat (luckily) was rather good while we were driving. Sharah got a good nap in

and Caitlyn got to work on her project for the trip. Hopefully tomorrow while I'm not driving I'll get some writing done.

After about 4 hours I started to get a little twitchy so we stopped and Sharah finally took her turn driving. She absolutely hates highway driving but put off driving until just before we reached St. Louis, MO at rush hour... She did amazingly well despite the slight panic of major traffic and steep grades. The scenery once we got out of the city was beautiful. By this point we were all a little giddy (three over-energetic women stuck in a car for 9 1/2 hours by the end of day one) and extremely giggly/silly and we had 2 1/2 hours left. Our phrase of the day ended up being "You can let that one in your hole, it's pretty"....

Who knew driving/riding in a car could be so exhausting. We have arrived at the hotel and we're all ready to pass out. The cat is sprawled on my bed and the dog is sound asleep on the floor.
