April 3rd was my birthday! I am now 31. Wow. D-:
It was just a regular day, except that RooG brought home THE MOST AMAZING BIRTHDAY CAKE EVER.
Last year's cake, if you remember, was pretty epic, but this one, well, takes the cake.
A yummy fruit-y cake from the local bakery
Mellow Garden. Those ladies really know how to rock a cake. Thank you Mellow Garden, and thank you RooG, for what has to be the coolest cake I've ever received. :)
Spring is finally here!! Normally I'd be thrilled to bust out the summer wear again, but this year I'm presented with a happy problem. My clothes don't fit anymore! I had to chuck all my skirts and pants, and some of the shirts too. They're just too big.
So I was pretty excited to find that one of my favorite purveyors of clothing, Old Navy, was opening a store in Tokyo, and the grand opening was April 4th. I ventured forth to the Grandberry Mall in Minami Machida to check it out. The store is HUGE! and also HUGELY CROWDED!
I was tempted by these 700-yen Yokohama shirts, but ultimately decided against it.
Cute shirts for little boys
I tried on a bunch of things, including this dress. I took a picture of it to send to RooG to get his opinion.
(Awesome Game Boy cell phone case! Birthday present from my brother.)
He said it looked good, and I kinda had to agree with him! Please forgive me for the following tooting of my own horn, but... I haven't worn dresses since high school. Once I hit college I started gaining lots of weight and ever since then I haven't worn dresses because I just didn't like the way my belly looked in them. D-: Lately my belly has become much less of a problem... still have a ways to go, in that regard, but it's a LOT smaller than it used to be! :-D So I decided to buy the dress. Yay! I headed to the checkouts...
Ouch! The line wound around the entire store, starting alllll the way in the back of the store. The staff member at the end of the line said it would take an hour to reach the registers. Is the privilege of buying one dress worth an hour of my time? I decided that it was. :/
Once I got about 3/4ths of the way through, there was a poster saying that anyone who bought 3000yen or more worth of stuff would get a free piggy bank. My dress was exactly 3000 yen, so, yay! I got the pink one. :3
And that was my Old Navy adventure. Today I decided I wanted to hit up the H&M in Sakuragicho to see about finding some more spring/ summer clothes. For us, a trip to Sakuragicho ALWAYS includes a meal at Bubby's, this amazing American diner right by the station.
...Well, it USED to be right by the station. When we got there we found out that they'd moved into the Landmark Plaza shopping center. Oh, ok. We went there and we were really bummed. The new location is MUCH smaller and louder and cramped than the old place, and most of the staff didn't really know what they were doing, My cheeseburger was delicious...
... as was the pie (we split slices of key lime and banana mocha)...
... but I doubt we'll be back. The ambiance of a restaurant is pretty important to us, and sadly Bubby's just ain't cuttin it anymore. ;__; RIP Bubby's.
Next I combed the racks at H&M in search of cuteness. You guys, you have no idea how exciting it is to be able to buy clothes! I can just waltz into any store, and find clothes that fit me! Even PANTS. It's seriously the greatest feeling. Clothes shopping is FUN now! All those painful workouts =1000% WORTH IT!!!
I got this dress. I love the pattern! RooG said, not in an unkind way, that it makes me look like a watermelon . I would like to think I look like a devastatingly attractive watermelon!!!1
So I got it, and a pair of shorts. Total came to less than 2000 yen! awesome!!
Well, it's time for us to eat dessert and watch Walking Dead. Tomorrow is the Zen-Kanto Taikai, a big karate tournament. RooG's entering, so I have to go and cheer for him. Yay. -____________-
RooG thanks you for your time
