Upon arrival you will be seated in the dining hall to start the party with a nice god meal, so I hope you haven't eaten before arriving. You'll be seated where your Name card will be. In front of you there is a lovely Plate setting, decorated to suit the theme of the place.
[Mjrn, nervous and eager not to offend through her lack of such etiquette, barely eats anything. Her progress is slow, as she watches others like a hawk to navigate through the nuances of such a formal affair. So eager is she to make a good impression that she barely thinks to do what she came here for; to ask question and hopefully gain answers. Oh, well. Maybe afterwards?]
Mjrn’s distress was noticed. Some one with out formal etiquette training, unfortunately, stood out at a party like this. It was distressing that a lady should find herself so uncomfortable. During one of her fleeting glances around at the other guests as she searched for clues Chloé casually picked up the proper fork to indicate the one she had in her hand was for the salad and not to be used on the entrée.
Relief ran through her as Mjrn took notice, and she quickly switched forks. Hopefully, no one else would notice. She cast a brief grateful look, even if she wasn't sure that such was done for her benefit. The knowledge still aided her, and so she felt slightly less anxious as a result.
He nodded at the lady. It was perfectly fine that she didn’t know all of the rules, not everyone was raised in England after all. As soon as there was a long enough lull in the conversation Chloé made a point of introducing himself to the lady. Hopefully to make her feel even more at ease.
“Hello, Ms. My name is Chloé. If you find there is anything you need I hope you will allow me to be some assistance to you.”
The young Viera perked up and nodded shyly. Her accent is thick, but not unintelligible. "Thank you, Chloe. I am most grateful for the aid. Much is unfamiliar to me...but I suppose this is obvious." Her expression is sheepish, but she at least remembered her own introduction in time. "My name is Mjrn."
Chloé has a bit of an accent himself, a posh British one. But, hers wasn’t too difficult to understand. It even gave her a bit of a mysterious foreign air. Where did she come from where accents like that were common?
“It is a pleasure to meet you Ms. Mjrn.” It was obvious, but she was handling the situation better than some of the others at the table, “I suspect there are quite s few here who also haven’t had much experience with dinner parties. I shouldn’t let it bother you too much.”
That accent...it did stir a faint recognition in Mjrn, and she grew hopeful for a moment. Perhaps it wasn't just her imagination. "Forgive me, but...are you Archadian? Your accent, it is familiar." Granted, she didn't have fond memories of many Archadians, but one in particular reminded her that they couldn't be all bad.
“Archadian?” No, sorry, the term was unfamiliar to him, “I am afraid I have never heard of that particular territory. I come from Earth, more specifically a country called the United Kingdom.”
His origin was a much longer story, one he wouldn’t really go into great detail on, so he settled on telling the lady this much and no more than that.
“Do people from this ‘Archadian’ really have the same accent?”
There was a faint flicker of disappointment, as she nodded. "Aye, or very similar. The Archadian Empire is far from my homeland, yet I have encountered their kind before. I thought that perhaps another had arrived from my world." Oh, well. Perhaps she could learn about this Earth and United Kingdom, instead.
“I know how you feel. It is nice to encounter someone from home,” Even if they are a stuck up obnoxious little brat from the past. “But, don’t let that stop you from meeting others. A beautiful lady like yourself should have no trouble mingling at a party like this.”
Mjrn shook her head, slightly flustered at the notion. "It is flattering that you believe so, but...my experience with Humes is very little. I am afraid that 'mingling' seamlessly is not within my reach."
“Humes?” Yet another unfamiliar term, “Do you mean humans?” He smiled, finding the situation oddly reversed in his case, “I have not had much experience with anything else.”
She nodded to his question, figuring they must be meaning the same race. Humans? Odd word. "Then this situation is surreal to you, as well? How long has it been since you arrived?"
“Very surreal. I never expected to see people who are fictional on my world as living beings here.” Still suffering from a bit of ‘omg it’s Mickey Mouse!?’ syndrome. “I have been here since May. Yourself? How long have you been in this place?”
"Ah...I arrived but three days ago." Yes. That new. Mjrn's expression was apologetic, since she knew she was bound to have many questions. "This is my first time outside the realm in which I arrived."
The food is as follows:
Starter: Chicken caesar salad
Main: Roast sirloin with Yorkshire puddings
Dessert: Spicy apple and pear crumbles with blackberry cream
