Padmé looked up after a moment and did her best to meet his smile with one of her own. After Luke had arrived and told her of the future, she had been slipping into deep bouts of thought. The future seemed so bleak to her. She was gone, Anakin had (supposedly) gone to the Dark Side, the Jedi Order was nearly gone, the Republic had been replaced by an Empire, and her (possible) children did not even know her name. What was there to look forward to?

Still, perhaps they really could change the future. And if so she knew she needed to remain optimistic. Anakin would need her. She had to be strong.

"I heard there was a library here," she replied, standing and pulling her navy shawl around her. She was dressed prepared for anything, and that meant pants instead of a dress. While she trusted Obi-Wan would protect her, she wanted to be able to hold her own as well. "I thought it might be worth a look."

And, really, she just wanted someone to speak to about what weighed so heavily on her shoulders.

"A library," Obi-Wan echoed, already intrigued. His brows scaled his forehead to illustrate his interest. "Sounds fascinating. It's strange to be so outnumbered by worlds without datapads."

It took some getting used to flipping through pages and not holograms and touch pads, but Obi-Wan didn't mind. It just made the culture all the more fascinating, seeing where the differences lay. And it was certainly a good distraction from thoughts of the future, no matter how he might want to vent his concerns. Once they were outside of the ship, he took a moment to marvel at the castle.

"It's so grand," he remarked. "I wonder how long it took them to build this."

As far as he knew, technology here wasn't near as advanced as it was in their galaxy. Was it build by hand? The thought was stunning, even moreso as he looked out over the landscape as they crossed the bridge leading to the castle. There was a village a few kilometers out, but otherwise, it seemed so isolated.

She nodded to his statement about books. While she constantly had holodisks scattered across her desk, books would only have made it more cluttered. Then again, a book felt so much more authentic, as if that binding of paper had been done by the author himself ( ... )

At her comment, Obi-Wan nodded once. He hoped the library would give them clues to the Darkness and the creatures they spun out to attack this galaxy and others. But it was her last observation that made him pause momentarily, in both hesitation and... well, not quite surprise. He supposed one would have to be good at reading others in her line of work, but he usually only ever expected Qui-Gon to catch him in a mood of melancholy. And at any rate, he'd noticed the same about her. It, however, was not his place to press her about her thoughts and so held his tongue ( ... )
