I wonder exactly where I got the idea that I would have more time to write during the summer. I’m still busy, and after about 8pm I’m so beat that the mere idea of wrapping my brain around a chapter of anything seems ridiculous. At least the paychecks that are coming in every couple weeks are nice and fat. 40-50 hours doing nurse delegated jobs gets you enough zeros to pay bills and have some left over for treats. :)
Started a workout program called “Get Fit Boot Camp” and it’s kicking my ass. Getting up at 5 to be at the gym by 5:30 to kill myself for an hour may seem like the worst idea of the century, but I’m so unhappy with my weight as of now that I’m ready to swallow a tape worm. Woke up this morning with muscle pains I haven’t felt since actual boot camp, so I guess it’s working.
In other news, since
haru_42 gave me the link to
eztv.com a few months ago, (and I’ve been too tired to do anything that involves any real brain power) I’ve been catching up on America’s most popular tv shows. I started with
Being Human, which I liked immensely. The vampire lore is pretty good, and the personalities of the three roommates are easy to relate to, and the language isn’t that fake television crap that you see so often. They actually talk like people I know, which is nice. The British version is also good. After that, I blew through the entire
Stargate Universe. Husband was really pissed when it ended so abruptly, and I mean really pissed. He was still grumbling about it a week later. Our favorite date night is teriyaki and some dark outer space drama like Battlestar Galactica, but now there’s no sex and betrayal in deep space show, so he’s going to have to make do with
Falling Skies (definitely promising, but it’s only been going for a few weeks so I can’t make any final judgments yet). Oh, and I finally got him to start watching True Blood. It’s been pretty fun to go back and watch the first season again after knowing everything I know now.
Now, since I am a musician, and music was such an enormous part of my life for so long, I decided to check out what all the fuss was about
Glee. Definitely the worst show I’ve ever seen, but I’m so addicted to it that it’s scary. The plotline is severely lacking, as in people would have gone to jail or been killed if some of this stuff had actually happened, and the bullying factor is so out of proportion and unrealistic that it’s ridiculous. But the music is so utterly fantastic that I keep coming back for more. Frantic and almost rabid I eat that stupid show up like a hungry dog. Please give me more Glee versions of Lady Gaga and Kiss. Nao.
Last but not least, a show that surprised me-very pleasantly I might add-was
The Vampire Diaries. I was sort of apprehensive about this one because of the whole Twilight craze, and while I don’t hate the series, I’m not particularly impressed either. I was thinking Diaries was going to be a television version of high school emo vampire love that got boring/annoying after the first ten or so episodes, but it really wasn’t. Besides the fact that
Ian Somerhalder is the hottest thing on television since… well, Lost, the plot is actually quite intriguing. It is high school love drama, but not to the point of it being retarded. There’s good action, brotherly bonding/rivalry, hot people, and the vampire lore is pretty good. I like the bloodlust special effects. The vampires get these smouldering, smoky eye things going on and it looks pretty cool. Also, another good point for Diaries is that it’s somewhat family friendly (if you’re cool with letting your kids watch vampire shows). There’s no nudity or bloody vampire explosions. The sex is also fade-away, and there really isn’t a lot of it in the first place. Overall, good show. Indulgent. I recommend it. :)
Oh, and I was wondering. Creature is still obsessed with Buffy, so we watch an episode of that every couple of days. We’re in the middle of season 5, and Buffy’s little sister is driving me crazy. I couldn’t get through a single episode with her in it. Does she ever go away? Does she ever get not so annoying I wish a vampire would swoop in and tear her apart? Seriously, I’m going to have to put a ban on Buffy if shit doesn’t change. We’ll watch Angel instead.
*sigh* Off to work. Maybe I’ll have some time to write later tonight? I doubt it, but one can always dream, right? Have a good weekend F-list.
Oh, P.S. New anime that I love:
Ao no Exorsist. Totally fantastic. I give it a million stars. You should check it out.
