Hi 2015. I hope you bring a lot of good stuff because 2014, though great, was also really, really hard. I'm not saying that 2015 won't be hard. Actually, rewind that. 2015 could totally and completely suck, but I really hope it doesn't. 2014. I can't believe how quickly you have come and gone. I guess this is just a preview to the rest of my life "with kids".
Anyway, here we are in cold Oahu. I don't understand how 60 degrees in Hawaii is freezing, yet warm and pleasant in Washington. In any case, it's been busy, but not crazy, which is a pleasant change. However, having an almost 1 year old baby in Oahu is pretty hard. Lots of possibilities for head bumps on hard and sharp edges in non-child-proofed homes. And by "possibilities" I mean, has already done so multiple times and tumbling down a ramp at Popo's house. I screamed "BABY!" four times because I couldn't reach her in time, but no one seemed to hear me. ::that face:: And let's not talk about how she loves to give me 3 am wake-up calls. And I say "me" because I'm the only one really taking care of them. ::that face again::
The in-laws were nice enough to give Nick and I time together to enjoy the New Year's Eve party, after I put Aurelia down for the night. Which leads us to story time...
I got myself ready to return to the New Year's Eve party, keys in hand. I drive down the hill to the main light, watching a little firework show off in Kahala. I am sitting at the light, looking back and forth, and that's when something catches my eye on the passenger side dashboard. My bestie, the cockroach. Its little antennas twitching in the streetlights, I had no choice but to continue to drive with my lil' "friend". I watched it, the road, it, the road, hoping with tight, raised shoulders that it would stay put on my short, yet excurciatingly long 10 minute drive back to the party. I almost missed the turn, and anxiously waited for the green light. Let's just say it was the longest light ever. I made it up and round to Popo's house with this guy chillin', looking out the window like he was heading back to the party too (probably, ironically, true considering...). I found parking, started to back-up and that is when it scattered. It's around 9 PM, so I can't see where it ran. Then the light hits just right and I see it on the glove compartment. I throw it into park, hoping I am out of the drive-way in front of me and not too close to the car behind me, get out, slam the door, lock it and check the handle. I then politely walk into Popo's house, find Nick, and tell him, "I refuse to get into that Acura again," and hand him the keys.
Of course, once I explained my car ride, he went into a fit of laughter, but then hugged me. I also mentioned said story, in Reader Digest version, to my MIL who also, in turn, laughed at my expense. Whatever. I think I'm freaking awesome to do that car-ride without having an accident or an anxiety attack. Considering
my last experience with them.
Anyway, we still have about 7 more days in "paradise". I haven't been to the beach once yet, so I'd like to at least accomplish that. Please. My Aurelia will also turn 1 in 5 days! She is doing so well on this trip, considering all the people. I told Nick we should go out for burgers and fries on the 3rd, to celebrate her induction date. I wonder if there's a Red Robins out here... ::smile::
I hope everyone had a great end and beginning of the year!
the end.
