Lisa's Top Ten Gazer Fics

Feb 12, 2008 11:46

For February,
thephoneix and I have decided to each make a top ten list of our all-time favorite Alex and Isabel storylines.  I'm sure you've heard all of mine before, as I'm (as always) a bit behind on the times so far as fics go.  These are all old favorites of mine, some older than others, and the ones I always find myself turning to recommend, but then I guess that's what this list is for, isn't it?  OT-ten points to anyone who knows why I used this icon.

ETA:  Feel free to post your top ten list here as well!  (thanks,
truelovepooh)

1 - The Letter by StargazerUK

So, so tempting to just flood my list with David's stuff.  Like Cam, I limited myself to one, though.  Which was dang near impossible.  I think The Letter is still my favorite of his, though.  (Cam's recommend is my second!  Rebirth, maybe my third? I LOVE THEM ALL.)

2 - The Captivated by Darkness Series by Ash

Um, heck yes.  I know it's not straight A/I, but I'm overly partial to good ensemble pieces, and seriously, how freaking awesome is Alex Whitman in this story?  Alex and Isabel are absolutely worthy of each other in this fic, and their relationship is so genuine and sweet that this may well be the reason I fell so hard for Alex and Isabel as I originally did. (Including: Fight the Break of Dawn, Fading Into Twilight, and Darkest Days)

3 - The Out of the Woods Trilogy by Kath7

Again, an ensemble piece, but the Gazer storyline is so worth it.  I have to read this again, because my memory's a bit fuzzy, but Alex bodily dragging Isabel away from Michael so she's not overcome by her past self?  And then the scene of the two of them at Stonehenge...  Just... it doesn't make sense if you haven't read it, but another example of why I love Alex as much as I do. (Including: Legacy and Union)

4 - The Roswell Elementary Series by Kara & Emily (and The Future Arc by Danilise & friends)

Yes, I lob these all together.  Maybe it's silly of me to put this so high on my list, but I was stupid in love with young Alex and Isabel, and their future arc is still kind of the ultimate of idealistic Roswell dreams.  A good part of me still wants to believe that they had that whole beautiful future together, that all of the gang got to live out their lives like that.

5 - Love is Like a Cabbage by Applebylicious

I rarely read AU.  Very rarely.  But with Linds writing Gazer?  Um, hard to resist, yes?  YES.  I loved how believable she gave AU characters similar strengths and vulnerabilities, and this little story was just Alex/Isabel through and through.

6 - Island in the Dark by Stargazing101 (on "indefinite haitus")

The first piece of Kay's I ever read, and it completely took my breath away.  The concept was just breathtaking and so innovative and new I just about cried when she disappeared. (Haha, guilt on that, Kay. <3)  Kay's version of Isabel completely impressed me, also, as it was so in tune with how I saw her, and something that I hadn't seen a ton of in the fanfic world, really.  Such a fascinating beginning.  I almost don't even care if we get more of it (well yes I do) because it kind of opened my eyes to whole new ways of looking at fanfiction.  (Took off in the middle of an episode.  That struck me as groundbreaking for some reason.  Maybe because it kinda was. lol)

7 - The Screaming Alien by ShellSueD (incomplete)

TWO AU's?!!  But did anyone NOT love The Screaming Alien?  A bit of a role-reversal for our favorite couple... and a totally believable one, as we all know that they were both equally capable of confidence and vulnerability.  We got to see the characters in a bit of a different light here than we do in most cases, and different is quite often a very good thing.

8 - Cast No Shadow by Quint (incomplete)

Okay, so I know that this never quite made it to TRUE Gazer territory from what Ethan posted... but as I was his beta, I had a better idea of where the story was going, so while it's completely unfair of me to keep this on my list, I will, because I love Ethan's Alex and Isabel, and I loved the things he would have done with this story.

9 - Cinematic Royalty by roswellianprincess16 (now originalized)

Okay, fine, three AU's whatever. :-P  Sel did a brilliant job with Alex and Isabel here, just so much fun to watch them fitting into this whole completely different lifestyle, and see not only them, but the rest of the CC's fall in love.  And now you can buy it as a book!!!!  The originalization is definitely original, though. ;)

10 - Lovewhammy by Anniepoo98

Just absolutely FUN.  I chickened out on reading this about three times from the description of it, but it's ANNIE so I had to, and it's such a fun piece you can't help but love it.  So silly and sweet and again, just a blast.

This list isn't perfect, by any means.  Feel free to rec me, if there's something obvious I'm missing. ;)

Also, keep an eye out!  Valentine's Day drabble challenge to come!
