Why This Must Be Read:
The problem with shows like Stargate is that we never got to see the aftermath, the real life ramifications of the amazing and stressful events the characters went through. Each week was essentially a clean slate. So it's the rare and worthwhile fic that delves into the emotional and psychological reprecussions in great detail. Descension Back to Normalcy does just that but to simply call it an episode tag does an injustice to both its length and the complexity Dream Weaver delves into.
Set after the episode "Ascension," the fic focuses mainly on the broken trust between Carter and the rest of the team becasue they didn't even humour her over Orlin. The meddlesome NID and the aftermath of their surveillance on Carter is also dealt with in quite a thorough manner. The best thing about this fic is that there aren't any easy answers. Dream Weaver doesn't wave any wands and make it all "okay" again after a team night.
This is an excellent addendum to "Ascension" that could have been an episode unto itself if Stargate had been the type of show to concern itself with such matters.
