Esau have I hated.

...kind of. It's not exactly a love/hate relationship I've got with MIB at the moment, but more of a fascination/hate. So, he's Smokey. (Lost actually answered one of my burning questions -- in the season premiere? Hwat?) I was spoiled for that, but it was still cool/creepy as hell to see.

What was NOT cool was him making fun of Locke. I have always been something of a Locke fan, but I guess I never realized how attached I was to him or how hard his death hit me until we heard his last thoughts.

Quoth MIB: "Do you want to know what he was thinking while you choked the life out of him, Benjamin, what the last thought that ran through his head was? 'I don't understand!' Isn't that just the saddest thing you ever heard? But it's fitting in a way. Because when John first came to the Island, he was a very sad man. A victim shouting at the world for being told what he couldn't do, even though they were right. He was weak and pathetic and irreparably broken. But despite all that, there was something admirable about him. He was the only one of them who didn't want to leave, the only one who realized how pitiful the life he left behind actually was."

Quoth Erika: *cries*

Locke's death is one of the things that frustrates me most about Lost. It's just...not fair, you know? He's a good guy stuck in a really shitty life, and in spite of signs to the contrary and in spite of all his faith, his death was horrible, sad, and ultimately pointless. I was rambling about this to lostsailors  the other day, and she brought up that he's not even a tragic hero -- his plot arc is incomplete and just ends so suddenly, for no reason -- he's just tragic, and pathetic. (All his "everything happens for a reason" stuff? His connection to the Island? I wanted so bad to believe it would work out.) And it makes me really, really sad.

(You want to know what two things I want most from Lost? For Locke to really have had a purpose after all, and for Ben to have a last shot at some form of redemption. Everything else I could take or leave, absolute truth be told, but give me those and I will be happy.)

Okay, here endeth the sermon. Some other things that I've probably said to you all already, but have them anyways:

+ Sorry, not diggin' the flash-sideways. Or the other Others, who look like extras from Pirates of the Caribbean who wandered off set to drown/resurrect annoyingly-and-inappropriately-Jesus-like Sayid. Meh.

+ Ben looks like a kicked puppy here, freaked-out and trying unsuccessfully to cover up the blood on his shirt and desperately confused. (Welcome to the club, Benjamin, none of the rest of us know wtf just happened, either.)

+ Juliet. ;__;

+ Richard. Angry!Richard is kind of awesome and also hot (also, MIB's "Richard in chains" comment? Heh.), but the fact that he asked Ben to tell him what was going on ~as a friend~ made me really, really happy. 'Cuz Ben needs friends, and Richard is a good one for him, and now I hope more people will write them together because it's canon. I hope Richard's okay, and I hope it's Ben who goes after him. 'Cuz that would rock.

Note to non-Lostie friends: I'm sorry you had to see me like that about these constant ramblings. I promise I'll make some non-Lost posts for you in the near future -- I haven't forgotten that life exists off the Island, as it were. <3
