Yarn Harlot 2008

I wasn't thinking I'd be in Kentucky for the Yarn Harlot visit, but it is a nice coincidence while being here for medical treatment. Previous years it was always during the Bluegrass Festival of Books, but this year it was an solo event at Joseph Beth Booksellers for her new book, Things I Learned From Knitting (Whether I Wanted To or Not). To see if she's coming near you, tour dates

Knitters gathered in anticipation, grabbing the good spots where they wouldn't be blocked by pillars, knitting away or clothed in spectacular knits.

Jessi and other members of the SnB, plus Magpie Yarns, pulled together a basket of cool handmade goodies and yarn, plus some gift certificates to ReBelle and Magpie. with all proceeds to go to Doctors Without Borders. At the end of the event, a little over $500 was raised. Always awesome what knitters can do. :)

There were also babies being cute and photogenic.

The Harlot took pictures of us all with her sock. (I have felt compelled to buy some of that yarn for a while and I feel it whispering to me even more now.)

Since we had light through the windows behind us, I was able to get a nice picture of her this year.

At the end of the evening (which allowed for a bunch of hanging out and knitting with SnB folks,) I got my book signed and chatted with Stephanie a bit, had my scarf/shawl fondled (Fleece Artist Goldilocks from Romni Wools from when I was last in Toronto), plus acted like a complete dork to point out my Jaywalkers (Regia Canadian Color in Ottawa colorway, purchased from RedBirdKnits). Somehow, I think that is to be expected when at a Yarn Harlot event though. Anyway, great to see Stephanie again this year. :)
