I'm at work, the only person on shift, which means I don't get any scheduled breaks. I just have to eat between rushes of customers. Today, it was quiet for about two hours and I decided it was safe to heat up my Lean Cuisine. Lo and behold! The second I loaded a noodle onto my fork, a customer walked in looking for a room. Then another one. Then two reservations checked in. By the time I got back to my meal, it was cold and rubbery.
It happens every time I go to the bathroom, too. Business will be slow for a while, so I'll run off to pee and there will be three people standing at my counter when I get back. Or the phone will start ringing as soon as I lower myself to the porcelain. How do they know?!
Honestly, I didn't mind being interrupted tonight, because I got to see some of favorite customers. The two reservations that checked in while I was eating are regulars- Denise and Budie- and I absolutely and genuinely adore them. They're wonderful to me every time they come in. Today, Budie said "It's SO nice to see you!" and Denise exclaimed, "I love your hair!"
It's nice to know that not all customers are assholes. People like Denise and Budie give me hope for humanity.
