There lies a paradox, however, behind the idea of progress. It is that progress is an ideal made up by higher political powers, to work against anything that “they” label as deviant. However, what is viewed as deviant by corporate powers and global institutions may actually be liberating to the people. So when citizens work against what’s deviant for the sake of progress, (because of the fear they have for losing their illusionary "achieved" status within the system) they are really working against their own freedom and liberation.
