Not that i'm ungrateful for these two precious off days we get only in summer. Never that. But there are some downsides and i know i'll miss them when i have to go to work on Saturdays too.
I live in an apartment block, with two blocks standing very close and making up 90% of my scenery. (The rest is the parking lot between us). The season being summer and thus school being out, kids from all ages are out too. Playing, they would call it, screaming and crying and fighting it looks like to an observer. Add in their oh-so-attentive mothers (fathers are oh-so-unnaturally absent during the day) shouting instructions from their flats above. Let's not forget other flats with loud music coming out, especially the mysterious one that listens to the same arabesque song over and over. It's hard to determine where the noise is coming from when i'm so close to the ground level and have about forty flats in front and above me.
Since i don't have air conditioning, it gets pretty hot inside. Moist hot. It's the humidity that makes the heat unbearable, clings to your skin, to the very air you breathe. Which has led me to wear as little as possible, something i never thought possible being a cold-city girl. It wouldn't be a problem had i not had to leave the windows open for whatever drift might come in. I am risking being an exhibitionist day in day out during summer.
I can't help but think that things could be a lot different if i had any reason to go out in the weekends too. Not for work, God forbid, but form something social that didn't necessarily included my work-buddies either.
