Plain and simple: who is your favorite character on Battlestar Galactica? Has this person always been your favorite? What is it about this person that strikes you?I'll try to keep my response short and sweet. If you're reading this, you'll more than likely already know that my favorite character on the show is Laura Roslin. She hasn't always been

on one hand i relate the most to starbuck. i too am a kick ass, smart mouthed, fraked up sexual deviant, who enjoys a drink, a poker game and being one of the guys but can also wear a dress from time to time. i love the military and firing guns.
on the other hand, ive always been drawn to roslin. she keeps me guessing and wondering what shes going to do next or how she is going to deal with each situation that is thrown at her. her composure and her cool-headedness, which astounds me and is something that i admire.

Laura's ability to compartmentalize is frakking unbelievable. She can close herself off to so many situations, but the thing that makes her all the more believable is that she does crack under pressure sometimes. The scene in the mini where she breaks down in the bathroom and the morgue scene from Sacrifice comes to mind. She is so close to that edge and you start to see her falling off it, but somehow she's able to rein herself back in. I love those little glimpses of just how vulnerable she can be beneath that strong, valiant front she puts up against everyone else.

Why? Cause she kicks ass without having to be violent (although I would kill to see her at least bitchslap someone). She's sneaky and manipulative without breaking any laws. She's smart, THE cutest giggle in the universe and really...the legs.
Oh yeah...and just when you have her pegged 100%...she does something irrational and completely wonderous.

Ah, yes, how could I have not made mention of the giggle. Too cute. And legs. Yowza. I think I might have to go revise my original entry, lol!

Indeed. I love that she keeps us constantly on our toes. You never know what you're going to get.

Adama is a close second choice for me, and generally speaking, I fall for the male lead (*cough*Jack*cough*). He definitely surprises me every now and again, but his motives and goals are clear- not much of a mystery.

I think Laura always had it in her to be a leader. Actually, I think she and Billy were a lot alike in that respect. Billy was always quietly watching everything from the shadows, one of the brightest people in the room, observing without being observed. I'll bet good money Laura was like that when she was his age and as she helped Adar from campaign to campaign.

Ya don't say? *g*
but his motives and goals are clear- not much of a mystery.I can't say Bill is in my top 3 favorite characters list. I don't exactly know where he stands with me. I do find it interesting that for the majority of season 2, he was so much more different than the Bill Adama we knew from the mini and season 1 - hard-assed military man, confident in all his abilities and yet still a caring, warm man beneath the uniform. After his attempted assassination, he was a different person, and ( ... )

Guess you weren't around after Chimera aired then? ;-)
Which scene(s) did Laura infuriate you?
Well, you probably know I'm about as liberal and pro-choice as they come, so I think her decision to outlaw abortions so that humanity would HAVE to continue to grow made me mad as h-e-double hockey sticks! I understand her reasoning, and I'm glad she let the girl be an exception, but fundamentally the decision went against everything I believe in about freedom and equal rights.

Hmmm. We've known each other on LJ for a while. My memory is fuzzy over Chimera. I think it's one of the banned episodes of SG that I won't ever watch again. :)
I do remember your reaction to the events in The Captain's Hand. I'm quite liberal when it comes to certain things, and like you, I also didn't agree with Laura's decision, but given their circumstances, the decision didn't anger me as much as it did you. It's a delicate balance, whether you take away the freedom of a woman to choose or have the possibility of your entire race dying out. I would have grudgingly sided with Laura on the issue to make it illegal, but only because of Baltar's grim numbers that the human race would be extinct in one more generation. That's more scary than having one of your many freedoms taken away.

But then there came the towel scene and since I am terribly shallow...well...you know. And then Lee became darkish and he no longer appeared to be the cute boy, so he then had anything I like in a male character.
But I'm still new and so I have to say Laura and Adama are there as well. And of course Cheife because Aaron is totally cool and Chief is great too. So it's not all that clear yet. :-)

LMAO. Oh gods, you're a fan of the tiny towel! I, too, appreciated that scene for various reasons. *g* I'm happy I finally have another Lee-mo fan on my flist. It was starting to become a lonely place around here!
You ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to Tyrol. You're going to be shocked, trust me. Aaron's got a great set of action chops in the next few eps!!

Lee-mo? And yeah...since the Hitchikers Guide to The Galaxy I've come to appreciate towels...though in this case here we could have done without it too just fine. *lol*
Oh an is #8 (?) played by Lucy Lawless?
He must be very lucky musn't he? His character could have just been one who occasionally repairs a Viper and the nothing. That's good for him!!

Yes, a lot of people call Lee Lee-mo because he's so "emo." I've twisted it around to my purposes and now use it as an affectionate nickname. I love Lee terribly and he's the one character I truly understand on every level because he is the one I most relate to. I don't give a flying frak for anyone that tries to tear him down.
Number 8 is actually the Sharon Valerii model of Cylon. You're thinking of Number 3, D'Anna Biers. Yes, that is a blonde-haired Lucy Lawless, albeit speaking in her native New Zealand accent!
