I now have semi-plans for how I am going to make head/foot boards for my Pennsic bed. better late than never :) Those plans were drafted up last night.

Today's accomplishment was to cut all the pieces for the head/foot boards. I cheated a lot on the boards that will become the panels - The plan is to make a slot in the boards that are the stronger pieces, so the fact that I cut a 7.5" wide board with a 10" miter saw and thus have sorta raggedy edges doesn't matter! The other choices were to either use the jigsaw (hah! I ain't that good) or to cut 5' long boards into 10" long pieces on a table saw with no spare sawhorses to prop the ends up with.

I still have tons left to do, but I'm not going to think about that.

And the tent poles may only get 1 coat of poly-stain on them before Pennsic. Meh. Pennsic's a vacation. None of this is worth worrying about. Heh, I'll keep telling myself that :)

I really want to paint my bed in a manner that mimics the inlaid ebony/ivory of the original. There is no way that would get done before Pennsic however. So do I chance Pennsic with an unfinished bed (made of poplar - it may be "cheap" wood, but enough wood to make a bed is still expensive), or do I put a coat of poly on it and forgo the prettiness factor?
