Hi All,
I'm sorry about giving you an emo entry about having to find another teaching job and not having one to apply to specifically. I've been temporarily employed for the greater part of 3 years--clearly I should be used to this "predicament" or rather opportunity.
For instance, today I purchased a professional USB microphone and vocal recording software. It was refurbished and discounted for just 24 hours so I had to act quickly. If you've been reading my blog for the last 3 years, you'll know that I always wanted to try out voice overs. Now I will be able to make my own demo tape from the comfort of my own home.
Secondly, with the book illustrations and my wealth of teaching experience, I've become much more confident in my abilities as an artist and educator. I have been actively looking up local art places (thanks Desiree), and even found a juried photography exhibition that I will be submitting to. It's $30 and you can send up to 3 images. The theme is "Seeing Seeing". Here is the synopsis:
Special photographs capture a moment in time of somewhere, someone, something in a way that leaves us spellbound. They reveal, tell, relate, inform, depict what we didn’t really know existed, and leave us wanting for more.
With the proliferation of cameras of all sorts, it’s no wonder everyone sees themselves as a photographer of one form or another. All of these tools beget an enormous number of images created by almost anyone who can get their finger on the “shutter.” But how many
of those images are so remarkable we are left breathless as we are introduced to a new insight - a new way of seeing something, perhaps even something familiar?
I have been exploring this very concept for the greater part of 5 years! I have two images that I will definitely submit from last winter (seen in the Textures set on my Flickr account:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/schmitt_daj/sets/), but I have been working on a new theme of reflections off the roof/windows of my car. If you would kindly look at the link and give your opinion of applicable images, please do so.
I've also made it a goal to spend at least 1 hour outside per day (within reason of course), but I absolutely love this winter air. I have had chronic issues with my sinuses ever since my last job (that did not allow me much outside time and that particular classroom may have been the perfect habitat for mold spores), so I hope that the fresh air and activity will assist.
