Chicago

Erin and I planned a trip to Chicago to "get away from it all" and we did! The train ride from Ann Arbor to Chicago was hot, smelly, and long. We were all eager to get there already.

We got to the hotel at 11 Chicago time. And what a hotel... wow. It was humongous and way fancier than anything I've ever been in. Everyone was dressed up in finery with their drinks in hand. It was the Palmer Hilton by the way, only a block or so from the Sears Tower. We wanted to swim but the pool was closed. We took a walk around the block instead.

The next morning we got up early, hit starbucks, and caught a cab to the field museum. Our only remaining charged digital camera was almost out of juice at this point, but we got a few more shots with it here. We went to the pirate exhibit, which covered the voyages of the Whydah, a slave ship captured by pirates and sunk in a storm. The recovered wreck produced a ton of authentic pirate artifacts. I loved it.

Outside the field museum:

Next we did Shedd Aquarium, even though the whales, penguins, and dolphins were on vacation for renovations.

Then it was time for lunch... we went to the famous Cheesecake Factory and got some absolutely amazing avacado rolls, and a piece of cheesecake each. I'm the only one that managed to finish it all!

Unfortunately, all photos from the disposable camera turned out with horrible quality.

To be continued (when I get the rest of Erin's pictures...)
