So I was talked into taking my cousin's money-wise class. Even though it's got a Christian bent to it, the guy is supposedly a genius at getting out of debt and building wealth. I actually learned a lot from it. I didn't think I was a bad budgeter or saver before the class, but I fine tuned my budgeting and now it's really working for me. I also got serious about working overtime and since January I've saved up for and paid for my plane tickets to Nepal ($1700), my Special Training (karate camp) fee ($780), Saba's birthday present laptop ($480), my emergency fund ($1000), paid off and cut up my Kohl's and Meijer credit cards ($350), paid off $1500 in school loans, and have another savins account with $500 in it. So... what is the grand total since I started my class? $6310! Not bad!
And that's totally on top of my bills, rent, spending money, etc. With a little extra planning a nurse can do ok in this world.
In other news... I continue in karate. It made me laugh that so many people ask why I still go, now that I have a black belt. It's like DUDE, the good stuff is just starting! Anyway, it's all I do for fun outside of work. Except for hanging out with my pal at work, Erin. She has the cutest baby and I just love playing with him.
Grandma's bathroom is in, but the April snow put a hold on getting the ice house painted, although it has been propped up with new beams and the baseboards replaced, thanks to our relative Jason. A lot of work for what's basically a shed that we don't use.
