le sigh

so the tumor they removed from dad's neck? that wasn't all. they had to remove muscle and nerves and vocal cords.

for those of you keeping score at home: he talks funny now, which i'm sure is torture to a man that loves to sing.

well... they found another tumor behind his jaw. he's too weak for another surgery (the man is down to 120 lbs), high dose radiation therapy would be lethal because of his kidneys, and low dose radiation will only "prolong his life."

i think he's been coerced into accepting low dose radiation by my stepmother because she wants to have him around for "another year." let that sink in...

if he's ready, then i'm as ready as i can be. she's being awful. for example: she thinks she's going to get them to perform military funeral honors for him. ya know, for the funeral service he doesn't want. guess what? he's not eligible. yes, he retired honorably from the army, but he's been convicted of a capital crime for which he received a sentence of life without parole and his sentence has not been pardoned by the governor. yesterday, she had the nerve to bring this up again. when i pointed out that maybe she should check with the VA because he might not be eligible, she whined like a petulant child "I WANT THAT FLAG." eat a bag of dicks, lady. she wasn't even married to him when he served. you know who was? MY MOTHER. seems like one of the three of us (mom, my brother, or me) should get it, don't you think?

and for someone who is all "BOO HOO MY HUSBAND" she sure as hell isn't making many attempts to see him. she makes just enough attempts to make it hard for me to see him. *sage nod*

tl;dr: if it's not time, then it's too close for comfort and things need to be arranged.

family stuff, family, cancer, dad
