When he can finally bring himself to visit her grave, he comes empty-handed. He stood in the middle of the flower shop, surrounded by hundreds of flowers and as he'd reached for the roses, he remembered how red her blood had been, and walked out the shop.
It's too late for flowers.
The cemetery is quiet, and he imagines he can hear her laughter echo on the breeze. It still hurts, but he thinks he can move on now.
He stares at the headstone; her name, and dates marking a life far too brief.
"I'm sorry, Kate," he says, and walks away.
