He held her slight form close to his body and he shivered in fear. Hermione looked up at him as she pushed his hair from his face. He had accompanied her to her home so that she could see her dying mother when they had been caught unprepared by Death Eaters. Snape silently cursed the emotion that had led him to assist her in the first place. He should have told the Head Master and be done with the foolish girl and then he wouldn’t have had her body pressed against his in an intimate matter as they hid.
As he looked into her red-rimmed eyes, Snape knew that he still would have helped her, even if he had known that they would be attacked. There was something about her that he found himself drawn to her. Despite their similarities, they were almost exact opposites of one another. And when he looked at her, he saw a small piece of himself in her. Somehow his opinion of the bushy-haired, Gryffindor know-it-all had changed without him realizing it. Once more, Snape silently cursed the emotion that he felt for Hermione Granger.
Hermione tugged on his robes and he looked down at her. He could see the fear and the sadness in her eyes and he swore that he would do a better job of protecting her. First, he would have to get her back to Hogwarts so that he could start protecting her. He leaned down and placed a chaste kiss on her hair before he pushed her further behind him and turned to face their attackers.
