Captain Megan Doherty entered the room and looked around nervously. This was her first peace negotiations, and she was a little nervous as she recalled the information she'd gotten from the Confederation President. The twin princes, Auriel and Raphael Santaya, had been fighting over who would take the throne after the deathly ill mother, Queen Cathlyn, finally succumbed to the illness that had kept her bedridden for nearly a year. Things were about to develop into a deadly civil war, so Megan and her ship, the Pelagia, was sent to try and quell their tempers.
Sitting down on a bench next to a window, Megan looked out and studied the shrubs on the other side of the glass, humming quietly to herself. She was so lost in contemplation, gray eyes half closed, she almost didn't hear the door open.
"Captain Doherty?"
Megan shot to her feet and turned to the door. "Um..yes?" Tucking a strand of dark blonde hair behind one ear she took a calming breath and smiled at the woman standing at the door. "Have you found them?"
"Well, I've only found one of them, and he'll be here in a--"
"I'm here, Kalara," said a voice from the door. Megan turned around and blinked. Standing at the door was a young man, couldn't be much older than eighteen, with reddish blonde hair and blue-green eyes.
Kalara smiled. "This is Auriel Santaya, one of the princes...Raphael just refused to come, and nobody knows why," she explained.
"Oh I could tell you why, Kalara," Auriel said as he crossed the room to where Megan was standing. "He just doesn't want to admit that the ancient tradition of twins ruling together was any good." He smiled and held out his hand. "Nice to meet you Captain Doherty," he said.
Megan could only stare as she slowly raised her hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you too, Your Highness."
Things were going to be pretty interesting....
