When she had first gotten sick, Marisol had depended on her brother Eric for everything. He was the only one in her family who she didn’t have to smile and pretend that everything was okay even though she was slowly dying from the cancer. Eric had been there for her and even had risked his job to help make her comfortable. And then she had met Horatio Caine and everything suddenly changed for her. The faith that she had been slowly losing was suddenly restored as she started to fall in love with him. When she was with him she felt safe and normal and Horatio didn’t treat her like she was dying. Instead she felt full of life when she was with him. And when he was at her side, she had faith that there wasn’t anything that she couldn’t overcome, even the deadly disease that was slowly killing her.
She had been amazed to find out that Horatio had the same feelings for her and it delighted her that he didn’t pity her or even feel sorry for her. His love was something that was pure and true and she cherished it, even if her brother couldn’t understand it. When she was with Horatio, he made her feel like a beautiful woman both inside and out. She loved being in his arms and feeling the quiet strength that he gave her. She believed because of him that she could fight the cancer and actually have the miraculous recovery that her parents, and even her brother, dreamed that she would have.
