It was easiest for three friends living in the city to pool their resources and live together. That much they agreed on easily enough, meeting for tea and scones at a cafe Jane liked. They discussed living arrangements and flats, culinary skills and sharing a loo before coming to a satisfactory agreement. They viewed flats for days before they finally found the place that all three agreed could feel like home. But after they had all moved in they found things seemed to have changed on them.
In the midst of arguing over loo rights and whose night it is to cook, Jane found herself watching Bran and Will far more often than she should. She would sit in the window seat of the living room, trying to appear to be nonchalantly reading the book she held when really she was just watching them from the corner of her eye. Bran sometimes grew quiet when all three were in a room together, hiding behind his dark glasses and the slightly chilled demeanor she recognized from when they first met. But he was outgoing and conversant when he either of them alone.
Only Will seemed to understand what was happening, watching the two of them dance around a subject none of them wanted to broach. He caught the looks, the sounds, the sight of how they dealt with what had changed within them. And with a sign of frustraction, he knew and accepted how his heart was torn between the two of them.
