...this is what my mom called it when I told her I was taking down all my Christmas stuff today.
Mind you, I had a very nice Christmas. The standard events: Christmas Eve, visit mom's side of family, then visit dad's side of family. Presents and cinnamon rolls Christmas morning. Christmas day, dinner at Papa's house and then visit
midnightcoder's family. Of course, the only difference this year is that I started and ended the festivities here in Boxborough. (I slept at my parents' house on Christmas Eve.)
However, after the over-Christmas-ization of our society, I am ready to call it quits. Case in point: the oldies station started playing 24/7 Christmas music a week before Thanksgiving! (Although
you knew that already.) That is six weeks of Christmas by my estimate. Way more than the usual 12 days (which, by the way,
cost about $18,000 this year).
So, I took it upon myself to de-decorate the Christmas tree and drag it out to the dumpster (which I guess is kind of sad when you think about it). I left a trail of pine needles while doing so. Oops... hope my neighbors don't get pissed off about this. Away went the light-up candles, the Winnie-the-Pooh stocking, the Christmas Paisley tablecloth, and the angel-shaped votive candle holder. I stuck them in my storage cubicle up in the attic.
But the good thing is that now I have room for all the stuff I received at Christmas and as housewarming presents. Like the lotus-flower tealight holders from Brian, the ceramic pansy-print tealight holder from Steph, the brown mosaic glass tealight holders from Karen, the glass-and-stone "zen" tealight holder from Tim... hmmm, I sense a theme here... (but no worries, I love them all)
Anyway, it's back to work tomorrow... (Friday was a holiday and I took yesterday and today off)... but it's only a two day week for me because Friday is also a holiday, as well as the next Monday... I could get used to this! :)
P.S. - Trader Joe's has lots of Indian food. Their frozen nan is awesome. Be warned, though, that the packaged entrees are very, very spicy. For instance, I tried two bites of the palak paneer tonight for dinner and momentarily forgot to breathe, it was so spicy. I think it's because it sits there in the packet and stews in all the spices for so long. This was the second variety I've tried and I have had no luck so far. I don't remember this food being so spicy when I had Indian buffet with
ladybugus....
