The Media Low

So everyone is talking about Micheal Jackson's death yesterday afternoon. I find it very amusing that for the majority of the population no one was talking about Micheal. Then suddenly he is big news.

In fact I found out there was news via facebook. Someone made a comment that Farah Fawcett died and still couldn't catch a break because of Micheal. My first thought was that he had gotten arrested again for child molesting. But then I read a few more posts and found out my first thoughts were wrong.

While it is nice to be listening to some of the songs (I really do like Smooth Criminal) it is like everyone is getting out their guilty pleasures out. For the past fifteen years or so it has been like Micheal Jackson has been taboo. I do think that I tend to be pretty amblivlant towards liking (or not like as the case may be) what the majority is told is popular. And I have not been a fan of Micheal Jackson. There have been individual songs that I have liked I have tried to disassociate them from their artist because Micheal's life in the past fifteen or so years has been rocky and unpleasant.

However as I was listening to the radio this morning an idea was formed. Matt Patrick (the radio dj I have been listening to since I was 12) said how everyone knew who Micheal was, even in the farthest reaches of Africa. And also how it would take a minummum of 20 people for him to move even from room to room. That is no way to live.

So perhaps some of his bad moves are calculated. Maybe his fame got to be so much for him that he sought ways to make people not care about him. I mean he never did go to court for any of the things normal people would. Everything was settled out of court. So perhaps it was planned? Afterall, that is a much better way to see a dead man than as a child molester. Even his marriage to Lisa Marie was just a publicity stunt that ticked off more people than was good press. And that barely lasted a year before imploding.

In conclusion, while I am sad to know that someone has died, his death is not effecting my life more that watercooler conversation. In a few days the hubaloo will die down and once again the King of Pop will recess to the corner of my mind to only be recalled something triggers a memory that he topically is associated with. I offer my condolences to his family and will leave them to the peace that they deserve as they greive over their loved ones. And for all others, think about this; if someone died in your family would you not want people in your face as you cry and deal with the loss? So think about that as people post and talk about the situation.
