a Washington Post article yesterday which mentioned that MD State Senator Dyson wants to introduce legislation to the state legislature to put St. Mary's under the purview of the University System of Maryland. As anyone who has gone to SMCM knows, THIS IS A BAD IDEA to the Nth degree.
So I think everyone (alum, current students, faculty, staff, parents of students, etc.) should call, write, and email
Senator Dyson and tell him emphatically that you support St. Mary's independence and, most importantly, WHY. Then, contact
your own state senator (if he or she isn't Dyson) and tell them the same thing. I suggest calling if you can, then writing a snail mail letter, and only emailing as last resort. Calls lend more weight than letters which lend more weight than emails.
We live in a representative democracy. We should take advantage of that fact.
